The Haldi Significance
The Haldi ceremony holds a special place in our Indian Culture. It is one of the most significant rituals in Indian weddings. It is popular because Haldi has healing properties as well as it is medicinal, hence it became a pre wedding tradition and an important aspect of the Wedding Event.
To throw some light on its significance, the Haldi is a paste applied on the bride and the groom by their family members at their respective home or venue decided by them. There are different cultures associated with Haldi. Most of the time Haldi is mixed with Sandalwood powder , milk and rose water . This paste is then applied to the bride and the groom on the face, neck, hands and feet with a leaf. It also signifies purity before the bride and groom unite in matrimony. Haldi was also applied to the bride and the groom to ward off evil eye by tying a sacred red thread on their wrists to protect them and ensure there are no obstacles in the coming days before the wedding.
Haldi in the modern times is accompanied by traditional songs, dance and fun and ceremony ushers prosperity Haldi signifies it by its rich yellow colour which is considered to be very auspicious. On this day most of the family members also wear yellow clothes and the bride and the groom are also dressed in yellow coloured attire.
An age old belief before the modern beauty treatments became popular, Haldi was considered as a property that made the skin fair and glowing thus making the bride look radiant before her wedding.
